In this context, one-speed or two-speed Power Swivels have been designed which combine the functions of powering and lifting for drill string operation. This solution is particularly interesting for directional drilling.
With its proven techniques, LUFKIN has designed and manufactured customized speed reducers and two-speed gear drives with carburized, hardened and ground gearing and cast steel gear cases, able to withstand very high mechanical stresses and meeting impact strength requirements at low temperatures.
For the manufacture of these units, a special Quality Assurance program was implemented and submitted to the DNV and LROS accredited inspection authorities.
LUFKIN is therefore able to guarantee the reliability of these components in service, despite the adverse environment and bad weather conditions experienced on offshore drilling platforms.
